DFDS Seaways Freight Ferries
DFDS Seaways is a Danish shipping company offering – amongst other things – freight crossings between France and the UK. Find out more about this company and what to expect when using their ferries here.
DFDS Freight Services
DFDS runs freight ferries between Dover and Calais, and Dover and Dunkirk. There are also crossings between Newhaven and Dieppe, and Newcastle and Amsterdam, as well other European ports.
Unlike P&O, DFDS don’t give drivers a separate ticket to hold onto for the return leg of the journey. Instead, you simply get a window hanger when you check in. This has a tear-off strip to hand to the ferry staff when you board.
Road Kings Lounge
One advantage of taking a ferry over the Eurotunnel is the range of facilities on offer.
If you’re crossing with DFDS, take a look at the Road Kings Lounge. This is especially for freight drivers and can be accessed with the window hanger you’re given when checking in at the port. Don’t forget to take this with you when you leave your vehicle.
The lounge is luxurious, and is a welcome haven away from the general public. It offers a restaurant, reclining seats, showers and free Wi-Fi.
At the restaurant, you can present your window hanger for a free main meal, and complimentary tea, coffee and soft drinks are available. There’s also a bureau de change where you can exchange currency with no commission to pay.
As part of DFDS’s Road Kings Drivers’ Club, freight drivers can also get up to 10% off in the ferry’s on board shop – excluding cigarettes and alcohol.
